STEM and Basketball Join Forces to Create a new Phenomenon – BasketBotz
Imagine professional/student-athletes and youth in grades 6 -12 working together on teams of three to construct their very own microwave-sized robot that will be capable of propelling a basketball into a hoop. While learning the fundamentals of coding, fabrication, teamwork, problem-solving, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, marketing, networking, and career exploration, young people will also experience life-changing one-on-one interactions with local athletes, businesses, educators, and government officials.
Compass Youth Center, a registered 501 (c) (3) organization, presents BasketBotz as an exciting virtual and face-to-face project-based learning experience by partnering with Wake County Public Schools and the Raleigh Firebirds to bridge the gap in helping to fill the nearly 6 million U.S. jobs going unfilled in the STEM career field. The four pillars of BasketBotz include:
- Innovation
- Social and community engagement
- Cross-cultural skills
- Collaboration
BasketBotz as a Vehicle to Driving 21st Century Skills in Youth
Note: BasketBotz is currently in its inaugural season with a cohort of 3 teams at Zebulon Magnet Middle School. Stay tuned for upcoming BasketBotz expos, showcases, and competitions!
